Movie Review: Rendu: WTF?

Okay! so 'Rendu' is probably the worst movie to have come out of the Kodambakkam stables in a long while. So much for Madhavan being selective about his movies. At many points during the movie, I felt it had sunk as low as a 'Vijay' 'Ajith' or a 'Prashanth' movie. Except for Reema Sen's curves and occasional gimpses of her awesome body, I don't think there was any point in extending the movie beyond the title credits. Ideally any sensible editor who wanted to have a hearty afternoon meal should have edited everything between the title and end credits leaving out only those portions that showcase Reema Sen's "acting talents".

But my most important question is not that. Whats this nonsense of people flying in the air during fight scenes? Are we still in the 80s? Everytime Madhavan hits someone, the thug rotates in the air 3 or 4 times like a buffoon before falling down. The thugs literally float in the air and the camera shows them floating from 3-4 different stupid angles. You can literally see that he has been tied on to a rope and he is made to rotate like a barbQ animal in the air. It is not even technically sound. The director might possibly be under the impression that he is doing some 'teginigalli subar stent seen' (technically super stunt scene) but who watches these movies. Are people in near kovilpatti, mayiladuthurai and those flocking 'PerInbaVilas' still thrilled about such stupid scenes? These fight sequencs were almost vijay-like. Only vijay stands with his arms wide open and he suddenly begins to float upwards and reach some buiding terrace (3 out of the 4 baddies do the same thing - cant show all baddies as being capable of this seemingly ordinary jump). Madhavan does that here consistently. Its like everybody is a superhero with amazing flying powers. Madhavan can fly. Thug Ponnambalam can fly. It is inconceivable to see Madhavan as a rough-n-tough hero. His Tamizh is like hindi. I couldn't believe he would hurt Reema Sen in the sack. At least Vijay looks ugly enough to make girls puke one way or the other. But Madhavan? Whats the deal with all these heroes flying around in the air like this RoadRunner cartoon show. Somebody ought to kill the 'stent mastars' in Kodambakkam. Take their bodies and shove them up the asses of 'Director Hari' and 'Director Sundar'. And then take everybody and shove them up every orifice of the 'ilaya thalapathi vijay'. People should just stop with watching movies by Kamal Hasan and movies by the standard/new 4-5 directors. The rest of the pack are horrible.

why the surprise Hawk? After being a captive audience for the inflight movie -- priya sakhi -- I can't say Madhavan is picky about his roles. I am sure there must be other equally sucky ones before...

Every "Hero", including Kamal and Rajini have those Matrix like fight scenes .. Of late, they are making fight look more like the crouching-tiger movies, the only difference being in those movies there is a reason for defying gravity. Why criticise only the fights ? Even the songs are illogical, and in wierd locals. We treat the songs as dream sequences , and are able to enjoy them without asking for logic. Similarly, spinning-in-the -air fights, and of late, those "villian falls at slow speed and hero goes in normal speed to give him one more kick before he falls down" sequences are treated by our audience as another dream kind of sequence.

respect mate..to those poor stuntmen who risk their bones to give us the giggles. as for the tamizh movie directors..they should all be lined up together and shot (especially director perarasu)

Hello?! do you think people from Madras (aka koovampatti) are very educated ones?! Don't bash Mayiladuthurai. Many great people have come from and near Mayiladuthurai. Besides that comment, I agree with you on the stupidity of tamil movies.

Kamal padam mattum parkanumna en Rendu paarthinga. Rendukku munnadi vantha ella madhavan padam mattum supera iruntha mathiri pesaringa. How did you watched movies like priyasaki, priyamana thozhi, thambi which are worse than Rendu.

The other heroine was better than reema.

I second his opinion! Do not take Mayiladuthurai's name in vain :-)

anon2,

fights usually both in english and tamil are artificial. but look at casino royale you actually enjoy being poo suthified. some class and some sincerity. look at 'singaravelan' restaurant fight scene. very simple, sincere and completely acceptable.

this ' rotating' forever in the air is what pisses me off.

ram,

i thought vikram dharma wud go and tell perarasu

"sir air'la rotate panni adicha vijay image'ku corrita irukkum saar. rasigargal sandosa paduvaanga"

u never know how the vicious circle works

anonymous & saravanan,

enna thirunelveli'ke alwa'va. i have seen movies in all the theaters i have mentioned. Rs 2 ticket vaangi gaptan vijaykanth backkick adichatha perinbavilas'la paathu rasichavan naan :-) listen to the saami song 'thineveli alwa' :-). in all honesty the A, B, C centers are pretty much real and true. Vijay Ajith etc cater to B & C more than A. and i dont think its about education. its about exposure.

saravanan,

the only maddy movies i have seen so far are AP, KM, AE, Minnale, Run. Didnt like the last 2 very much but they were above some threshold. i havent seen any of those movies u mentioned. due to 'family pressure' and 'reema sen' i committed this sin. naalaikku unakke kannalam aanalum unga pondatti madhavanai jollu viduvathai sahithu kondu thaan poga vendum.

i wish i had seen this movie with u i wud have said 'ennai kodumai saravanan ithu'

Maybe.. but there is a strong contender - Chennai Kathal.. I can understand heroes walking in slow mo to some punchy music for a punchy scene once or twice.. but barath seems to be walking for every scene for the entire movie in slow mo!! omg!

at least rendu had that new actress who was worth looking at..

Thanks for visiting my blog and for your congratulations. I interviewed with Ross as well, they haven't released their decisions yet. But I think I've made up my mind to go to Kellogg. Apart from being a great program, it'll give me the opportunity to stay close to my fiancee.

I have to mention here that your posts about your BSchool apping experience and related advice helped and inspired me immensely. And I do enjoy all your hilarious posts. Keep up the good work.

hawkeye,
I am surprised that you didnt like Run and Minnale and liked AE. Madhavan is better suited for roles in Run and Minnale than AE. regarding "family pressure", i wud be worried if i am forced to watch indi padams like kabhi alvidha....tamil movies are ok. producer padam edukarthe namakku aaga thaan namba paaklena yaaru paapanu tamil padam parthavanga naanga. athavuthu ethayum thaangum ithayam kondavanga. I hate this dialogue 'ennai kodumai saravanan ithu'. enga ponalum ithe dialogue.

>> the obsession for heriosm will end someday.
It will never end. It is used a escapism from real world problems.

>>Rajini cant do it. Nobody from cinema can do it in the future.
Rajini didnt do it. He missed 96 elections. Time and politics doesnt wait for anybody.
