Sachin: Thalai Pola Varuma

I wish I was there in Chepauk today for this. 10 years ago - we (about 30 of my batch mates) were there in B stand cheering his 155 against Australia. What would we all have given to be there today.

With those 2 ODI innings in the C & B series in Australia and with this - a 4th innings century, not out, to finish a record chase - Sachin is on his way to check off some of the trivial criticisms that has distracted people from his achievements. One is compelled to feel that he needn't have done this to prove his greatness as a batsman - but it is nice that he did so anyway.

People do have short term memories. I do pity these sportsmen who seem to have to prove themselves over and over. I also feel sorry when they have to hear harsh words when going through a rough patch.
Kudos to Sachin! Thanks to Sehwag for giving a good start too :)

Great news! You woke up early to watch...

Dude, write something on USA and the Indians career there... with current economy.

What do you advice for MS chaps, completing course coming Spring or Summer?

You might have been there during the win against Australia, but nothing compares to watching a losing match against Pakistan. He played well in that match too, but did not see it through. Like a manager who decides to use unused vacation around the delivery time.

brilliant la? Seriously thala pola varuma is so apt!! I wish I were in chennai too...

/* He almost manipulates the field. You change it, and it's like he says: 'Right, I'm going to hit it somewhere else now'. */ - Strauss on Viru.

He set the tone and Tendulkar carried it through.

Smithee: Are you serious? Really? Look at that scorecard. He scored more than 50% of the runs in that innings. On a bad back. That analogy? Really! wtf was that?

I said "he played well in that match too".

Smithee: I noticed that. But my grouse was with the next line and your flawed analogy.

Hey I was there in the stadium on Day 2 and ofcourse Day 5!

Boy, my throat went sore of shouting,cheering.. add to it our stand had sizeable bunch of barmy-army. Amazing atmosphere it was.. almost jampacked stadium for a test match.

Hawkeye you and your Tendulkar puraanam. We get it that you are his great fan. But don't be so biased towards him. You don't need to put down ganguly (older posts) just to say Sachin is great.

Alan smithee,

don't you think it is ironic that Sehwag, deservingly so, was gifted the MoM today - whereas tendulkar was considered to have "gone on leave" when he played the role of sehwag regularly 10 years before.

@HEV's previous comment: In those days Sehwag-like Tendulkar didn't have Tendular-like Tendular or a bunch of other today's match winners. Now, Sehwag does. So, Sehwag can get to play the way he does.

This is what telling a simple fact that too many know in a manner too few understand :-)

Adhu seri. You talked of a match that you watched in Chepauk years back where Tendulkar played a winning role. I remembered another match that I watched in the same ground where he played and lost. I did not say he played a role in losing.

That is an unwanted statement irrelevant to the current situation.

ramesh,

i said the same thing 10 years before and people beat me with a stick. they wanted yesterday's tendulkar to be today's sehwag and today's tendulkar all rolled into one.

alan smithee,

No i am not dissing you. what you said prompted me to think of the Sehwag MoM. But you have to agree that the "manager" analogy would have troubled any tendulkar fan.

You are getting old. Not identifying anniyan dialogue. Ennamo..

actually I didn't :-)
