Babies R Us

A shop that has perfected the art of relieving gullible parents of their money. First time parents are so excited about having a kid that they want the kid to have best of everything and want to shower total love on the kid. Such love inebriated parents quantify this "love" into enormous sums of money and give it all to "Babies R Us". Showing love is buying either (a) useless stuff or (b) expensive stuff that is otherwise available for half the cost in Wal-Mart.

Baby products is an amazing industry. In most cases, like the car seat, you don't want to put the product to test. In other cases, like the foods that enhance brain growth, you have no means to test.

But I think this "babies r us bug" bites immigrant parents who are usually well off. There are prudent people who go buy 2nd hand strollers and car seats from "once upon a baby" type shops.

Baby products are very cool. Prolly the only non-lethal products made in the USA are baby products. For example I have not used soap for the past 14 years atleast. I always bath in Johnson Baby Lotion, which is NOT a soap, it can be poured liberally inside eyes and you will not tear up because it has no chemicals, it is just water with some FDA regulated cleansing solution. I also use only Johnson Baby shampoo for my hair, it is 99% water.
Practically everybody all my neighbors colleagues friends comment on my skin and looks because they tell me I must be in my teens, but I tell them it is just the result of using baby products. Baby products for shaving and underarm deodorant I get from mario badescu that is also mostly water with some pieces of floating cucumber in alcohol. Stay away from non-baby products that is my sincere advice.

How can the parents even think of getting Second hand car seats/strollers for babies? If they can buy a car for thousands of dollars, why not a brand new baby seat or stroller costing hundred odd dollars? I knew a desi who bought car seat/stroller in walmart used for a couple of months and RETURNED IT!! I am not judgemental here but i HATE this sort of attitude in desis...

Join the club of "I hate Babiesrus"...:) usually we dont take chances when it comes to babies thats why these shops make millions of dollars. The other place to compare is amazon.com, they have the same stuff with much lower/affordable price. I too believe in hand-me-downs, there is nothing wrong in that except we should make sure it is of good quality/safe.

Maddy, I was referring to "once upon a child" stores - http://www.ouac.com/

Anyhow, your comment reinforces what I had always thought. The success of "babies r us" is their ability to exploit a parents' guilt. The line of thought is "if I can drink a $100 whisky, how can I not spend $300 on maclaren stroller". Nobody wants to put a car seat to test and the baby can not say which car seat is more comfortable.

A car bought for 1000s of dollars is going to be used for a long time, where as the baby grows out of its baby seat pretty fast. So, whats the point, if u have to keep spending 200 bucks every 2 months?
And a car carries so many ppl...a baby seat will only carry the baby right? :P

I have a Jeep stroller and a McClaren stroller. Both do the same thing but you will see the difference when you push a mcclaren.

AS far as the same product if its cheaper in walmart good for you. I find Burt bees product are usually a $1 or $2 less than other stores.

But compare a 200 thread count sheet in walmart Vs one in bed bath or other fancy stores. You will see the difference. OR baby clothes. Either they dont fit the age mentioned on the tag or dont have any shape.

But I must say walmart stores other than the ones in 'bay area' CA look much nicer and appear shop worthy.

Alan Smithee..The hospital provides all the stuff for the baby. The first thing that the baby is gonna use (after getting discharged from the hospital) from the parents side is Car seat..This may sound ridiculous but thats the truth in most cases. So, why do you settle for a second hand? Especially, if it is a first kid, why dont we invest just in a functional 100 dollar variety (not the McLaren type)

Whatz the calculation behind spending 200 bucks every 2months,i dont understand!!

It is amusing to see how many of your posts are just for the purpose of self-justification and confirmation bias sakes, and they compel you to trash people doing things differently from you.

This post for instance. You wanna shop for your baby at Walmart? Go ahead. But clearly you feel a sense of inferiority and doubt - should I instead be spending more at babies r us? And then decide to spit on those who do, to make yourself feel better.

Attack posts are in general retarded. Attack posts about the choice of a retail outlet? That is retarded enough to make a brain-dead person seem like Einstein.

sliders,

i wanted to ridicule stupid people who shop at babies r us and make them feel offended.

so thanks for the validtaion

yes available for half the cost at Walmart and containing 2 percent of lead.. :D

Swing and a miss, bro. I do not have kids and don't plan to have any in the foreseeable future. So this is not a babiesrus shopper validating you.

I just wanted to ridicule your exercise in self-validation and guilt-suppression by saying out aloud to the world that shopping at walmart is the smart thing to do. newsflash, bro. EVERYTHING is cheaper in walmart. unless you have never bought from another store an item that is also available in walmart, you are just spitting at youself.

and lets say you are jst out to ridicule and offend some people and get your jollies from that. i respect that. thats why i love nilu too. but then you really are scraping the bottom of the barrel and pissing on your own legs by ridiculing people for retail choices, of all things. how the snarky have fallen!
