The 4th Idiot

Chetan repeatedly insists that "his countrymen/people/readers are enraged". Although he does not say so explicitly, he leads us to believe that this is the reason why (a) he is also enraged and (b) his claim is just and fair. Reminds me of instances when Karunanidhi repeatedly insisted (to the Central Govt ) that "I cannot do anything if sentiments of people cause them to act emotionally and indulge in violence". Chetan probably wants us to believe that he has no personal stake in the whole issue and is simply a 3rd party fighting on behalf of "people getting enraged". And that "peepul getting enraged" is reason enough to prove that his cause is righteous and worthy of support.

Since anything is possible, Chetan may have enough money to out-bribe Vidhu Vinod Chopra and convince the courts that he has been wronged. Until then media war is Chetan's only hope. But while pretending to media and general public that things like 'logic' or 'justice' is relevant in such issues, he seems to be shooting himself in the foot by pointing out irrelevant things like the opinions of his "10th fail but 12th pass Seeman Tutorial School" type fans (or) saying stuff like "they don't know how popular I am as a writer" .

What's with the line "left his high paying job in an investment bank to write a novel" in every article about him? As if he left his high paying job to serve lepers.

Anyhow, I just hope that nobody makes a movie out of "my friend sancho".

you just tell me one thing. why there is a public blackout of bhagat by the famous indian bloggers ? when chubbnis quit ibm and chased out of india by ponytail then varma kiruba arnab manish sepia amardeep nega bharath nitinpai jubbercock and rest of mofos wrote one one blog about the so called "injustice". now bhagat matter much more important matter but not a single blogger expressing outrage. why ? i think I know the reason but it is always better to hear from kudirai vaai.

If Chetan was given his due credit in the titles, he's gonna raise a different issue about his story.. Or worse a guy named rancho from simla will get a HC stayorder saying that the character portrayed by aamir is himself.. Wonder if Chetan got his due credit for the famous flop 'Hello'..

wrong kudirai vaai!

I dont get whats wrong with the author complaining that he wasnt given credit for the story ! The hero said that its not based on the novel and then accepted that he hadnt read the novel ! And the producer started screaming at the press ! I thought as a blogger your sympathies would be with the author..

/* I dont get whats wrong with the author complaining that he wasnt given credit for the story */

who said that this was wrong?

Hawkeye,
If you take your posts and simply condense them into ..

"Aaamam, avan periya pudingiya.."

they would sound appropriate without them masquerading as well thought out arguments.

Hawkeye said...

Sunil,

or.. Alternatively the post could simply mean what it says

yeah.. completely agree with ya' Hawk. Strange that Chetan keeps referring to public opinion instead of presenting his own arguments.

The author has got far more publicity and "credits" with the media exposure than a single credit line in a movie titles sequence would have given him.

Maybe the whole thing is a WWE-like setup. What you say? You cannot put anything past these PR managers these days.

this is seriously saddd on Chetan Bhagat's part.. in the name of credits, he is unwittingly behaving like an opportunistic gold-digger. People are going to look at him in the wrong way.. I mean seriously, he is rich and he is famous. How the hell is giving credit on a movie reel going to matter..

Hawkeye said...

hari/Sumanth,

Maybe he is opportunistic or maybe he is really wronged. I don't want to get into that. If he has decided to go public with this, he might as well refrain from mentioning irrelevant stuff.

ok your issue is not with why he is asking for credit but how he is making his argument !

yes.

there is a comic on Star One TV who has this demonic puppet monkey called rancho. wonder when he is going to sue the 3+1 idiots for stealing his name. all the gags in the movie are old and stale. CB should retire into a corner to lick his wounds and take revenge on us by writing more epics like "hello". if it is entirely his story, he needs to have his head examined for penning the emergency delivery sequence, the comatose idiot chapter (a dying baby is revived by the idiotic chanting of aal ij vaal, but not this guy and his stroke-victim dad. wake up bhagat!!) and more gems like the time when the mumbai floods make an appearance in delhi. if i were the producer, director and actor, i would get a court order declaring bhagat SOLELY responsible for the movie!!
