Holy Moley

I heard an over-enthu desi say "holy moley" in the the middle of the conversation with white people. Maybe he was trying to be a dude, or he saw too many Captain Marvel cartoons and thought it sounded right inside his head. But when he said it in a desi accent - it came out very funny. Couldn't suppress a giggle. Its not that hermes root will not protect the desi god. But there is a good reason why desis don't say things like "holy moly" "great Scott!" "holy smoke" or for that matter "ten thousand thundering typhoons" or "blistering blue barnacles". The only exclamation that seems to fit a desi accent, ironically, is "holy cow".

I was once ridiculed behind my back for having said - holy cow - to a school friend, having seen him after a long time...
but holy moley in a desi accent.., takes the biscuit

Think about 'Holey Moley' in a Mallu accent. Even funnier.

This is nothing compared to desi guys (work study in US/UK) in yahoo chat rooms. Just say you're a female and invite for voice chat, you will see how hard they try to impersonate like caucasians and fail miserably.

why is 'Holy Moley' any different from Indians(US or india) who use "whats up!", "awesome" with a soombi pona face?

I understand wannabes should receive kicks in the ass and deservedly so...but lets give the benefit of doubt for expressions that are uttered in the nick of the moment.

somehow i see a spectrum where 'ada kadavule' is on one end. 'whats up' and 'awesome' is somewhere in the middle. 'holy cow' is 75% there and 'holy moley' is on the other end. you may disagree. but its about how much you are used to hearing this expression in a desi accent.

the same guy used 'gee.. whiz' in that converstaion and it sounded even more funny!
