I am the essence of overconfidence! I am speculation, adventure; the spirit of pursuit; the stag howling for its winsome yet anonymous mate. I am the love call of evolution; the perfume and color of the flowers as they offer their pollen to the gentle buzz of the bees.
I am sex itself, gentlemen. I am life. I am appetite!
Yeah the political angle this time is with naxals and all.I think AE was a really good movie.and guru too was pretty good with exception of the final few scenes, when abhishek goes on to give a full on lecture.no other way to finish it i guess.read somewhere that AB's role is based on Kodab Ghandy a maoist leader. And isnt there a theory where every director's touch keeps reducing with every movie he makes.probably you guys could apply it here.but Mani has always been really good.atleast a cut above the rest.the visuals are really awesome in the trailer by the way.amazing camera.
i think its like omkara (contemporary interpretation of an epic), with the question of 'is raavan really evil?' thrown in. sema hype..hope it lives up to it.:). vikram will be really interesting to see..he plays both roles in the bilingual.
to people who talk about Hype. The Hype is in your mind not what they create. 1 Sec frame of Rajnikanth appearing is enough to create the same hype in your mind that some one else takes 100 scenes to.
So you are actually judging the worth of your creative expansion against the reality - which is no judge to the directorial capabilities.[Of course exceptions exists]
1. AE's whole point was char establishment from 3 different angles. I see no reason why that was bad or wrong
2. Guru - Well, Eh !
3. Comparing to Epic: Why is it Omkara the basis. Because they got it from Othello? I thought the malayalam "Kaliyattom" by Suresh Gopi [winning National award] was much better than Omkara - and thats like 8 9 yrs back, i think.
Also, Thalapathy was from Karnan- so i think Mani deserves that benchmark.
That said, i am not trying to be "Oh Mr Right is back" situation. Just explaining ....
whatever that was good in AE was inspired from Amores Perros and Guru was not even close to his prev. classics. The hype was there for both these movies as well and Mani disappointed in both.. Hope this doesnt disappoint..
Why should that be Vikram's fault? Maybe Mani wanted such an expression from Vikram. Also we don't know whether the expression is within the context of seriousness, sarcasm etc.
It's premature to jump into a conclusion that Vikram has let us down based on a fraction second scene. :-)
Claiming AE is similar to Amores Perros without mentioning why is the single lamest argument I have seen made against Manirathnam. For the record, I haven't found any. And if "one incident-three storylines" is someone's theory, then Jurassic Park was inspired by Avvayar since both films have the lead character confronting a giant beast.
@ Anon I heard Mani was the storywriter for TajMahal. Did some search and found Wikipedia had it listed. I was wondering if someone else knew and could confirm it to be true or not.
@ tyler durden lolz.semma massu.agree with you on the amerros perros AE argument. And the tamil lyrics la etho problem.anga anga massu a iruku.anga anga sothapal a iruku.
Abhishek Bachan is the best hope to overthrow Bollywood's Islamic rule of these Khan MFs and their sons/nephews/cousins/brothers.
On Kannatthil Mutthamittal, if parents tell a kid it's adopted, the kid will feel more grateful/obligated to its adopted parents. Not run away to find its biological mother.
In Ayutha Ezhuthu, Madhavan and Meera Jasmine talk "pithukulli, sandala" etc. Sujatha Iyengar thinks rowdis talk Brahminical/Iyengar lingo. I missed saathamudhu, abishtu and theertham from Inba.
Not to say these things stop from enjoying the movies.
Let's ignore the hindu tag associated with Abishek Jr, would you still say he's a talented actor? I'd rather wait for the real one to crop than settle for an average actor like AB :)
Generalization shows how far sighted one can be. I personally know a kid who wasn't grateful knowing she's adopted. Kids are not cognitively matured to handle emotional issues.
Anon: I was made to watch Guru and Pa recently. And I thought Abhishek's performance was superb. I am not Bollywood-literate enough to know if there are better performers than Abhishek but safe to say he is better than the Khans, Roshan and that shirtless Ajay fellow.
I may be playing Freud here but I don't think a typical child in Amudha's shoes would act the way she did.
Yaaru pa intha anonymous? Chinna payana vambuku izhuthinu! And Abhishek Bachchan is a good actor. He can only get better.:) @ I, Ranbir Kapoor irukaan la.he will end the Khan rule.Aamir thaan only ruler now.SRK falling by the way side.

Looks like Guna Part 2. Abishek cannot do this role well. It should have been Kamal
i actually thought the same thing. that it looks like guna from a 2 minute preview. but mani will put some political angle to it i suppose.
Am sure Vikram's will be a scene stealer. But the Hindi belt is already cooing for AB.
For them such movies are kuriji poo types, or rather to watch their wooden actors acting in Mani's films is..
too many visual similarities to omkara. adhe look, adhe comp, adhe haircut, adhe shawl, adhe motorcycle, adhe dawn/dusk shot.
Too much hype for nothing. What was the last good movie that Mani directed?
All movies directed by Maniratnam are good movies. He has 100% success rate if not commercially at least from a review wise.
@ Anon: May be Kannathil Muthamittal? or was it Iruvar?
Ayutha Ezuthu was good. Guru in my opinion ..Meh!. Wasnt he the story/screen play writer for the horrible Taj Mahal movie??
Praveen, It has been to be Kannathil Muthamittal. Ayudha Ezhuthu and Guru were nothing special..
I didnt mention Aayitha Ezhuthu and Guru. Not my favs. AE took more than 50% of th movie on charecter establishment. Guru was BORING!
KM and Iruvar.

yesd's rediff interview with AVb says this movie has nothing to do with any naxal movement or Ghandy. This is just Raavan.
If I can tolerate ABJr & his wife's overacting... I might get through just loving the photography
Sarang-

Very nice promo which invites a person with silence words
- Go & watch the movie.
Best Wishes!!!
Let's see if the hype is worth it.

Hawkeye, sorry for stealing your reply space !!:)
Vikram's 30 second Tamil teaser for audio.
Vikram sounded so lame in the ending of the tamil teaser.and agree with Sreekrishnan
whatever that was good in AE was inspired from Amores Perros and Guru was not even close to his prev. classics. The hype was there for both these movies as well and Mani disappointed in both.. Hope this doesnt disappoint..
Vikram sounds so dumb at the end . He kind of tries to follow how Abishek has done and tries to have the body language as Pitamagan..... losing hope
Abhi,
I thought Vikram's expression in the last scene was much better than Abhishek's.
By the way, are you the real Abhishek Bachhan in disguise? ;-)
Lakshmi,
Isn't he also the one who adds cheap comedy tracks and item numbers :-)
If Vikaram has to be compared with Abishek and be content with it it shows how bad has Vikram gone down particularly after Anniyan......
Why should that be Vikram's fault? Maybe Mani wanted such an expression from Vikram. Also we don't know whether the expression is within the context of seriousness, sarcasm etc.

Yes we have already watched him sodathipify M'bharat in Dalapathi, now lets all watch him sodhipify this epic -- the boring one.

Check this out:
Rakta Charitra (2010) Tamil Trailer - Rattha Charithram - Vivek Oberoi , Surya , RAM GOPAL VARMA
Raavanan songs are out.. If you have listened to hindi version, better stay way from the Tamil version..
blackaccord,
why stay away frm tamil version?
@ tyler durden lolz.semma massu.agree with you on the amerros perros AE argument.

Abhi,
Dunno but for some reason I couldn't help imagining Abishek Bachan speaking in Tamil ;-)
Anon,
Horrible lyrics... it feels like watching Junoon in Tamil...
2nd Anon,
Abhishek is not in the tamil version.. Its Vikram playing Abishek's role..
blackaccord,
you got me wrong. I was pulling Abhi's leg (commenter).

Stunning visuals. But I hope it's not like a Discovery or National Geographic program.
Here is the Tamil trailer
Wish it was Madhavan instead of Prithviraj. He looks very young and I wonder about the chemistry with Aish. Madhavan in both versions infact.
