The Dumber Years

When I was in school, I always thought work life of adults was stress free. One that involved a lot of freedom and fun. Somehow not having to write exams, the stupid cycle tests, record notebooks, not doing homework, not having to get beaten up by both ('indhi' master) Balasubramaniam sir and P.T. master Janakiraman on Monday mornings seemed like a wonderful prospect.

I often yelled at my dad and my other elderly cousins that their lives were much better than mine. They wore colour dress, drove their own vehicles and didn't have to ask permisison to put leave. They were 'settled' and didnt have to write an exam to prove their worth.

How wrong was I. No wonder I got beaten up so much by Balasubramaniam sir.

@Hawkeye,
Well life is like that :( Stress is too much at times and you feel like going back.. can't things be just static?

Hawkeye/Babs,

Was it silambattam? May be I wasn't selected for that :-)
I remember all of us practicing many sunny afternoons with this weird looking thing they called "lazeme". Do u guys remember that?

funny, i am going thru the opposite crisis right now. want to stay put in academia for rest of my life, but "sense" sufficient pressure to go out there ie. industry, & make money. i'd rather take exams for rest of my life than work a single day.

100% true hawk-i...school and work place are like vanavasam... have to drag ourselves in.. weekends and vacation time are the only things to look for...

Having said that, college days were stress free unless you are in 'luvs'...
You pick and choose the classes you want to attend.. you can sleep late and miss the first hour... You don't have any homework and no one slaps you for not doing your assignments.. you can kadalai-pottufy freely.. you get to spend dad's money happily as if he's minting his own money.. If you were in 'luvs', its a whole diff. story though..

If you are working in non-private Bank, LIC, Railways, AG's office, TNEB, Income Tax, Central Excise, your assumption is still good. Even in private company/U.S. job, if you are one of those HRs or operations people who put out that crotans on office desks, or professor of sociology/history, yo can ob-adichify, no?

Kicking myself everyday for not taking the BSNL government udhyogam I got.
